Tonight was our long-awaited, much-anticipated Girl's Night Out. We were headed to the Post Secret exhibit and a nice dinner, but Breanna called and told me, in a shaky voice, that Jeff had to go to work because there was an officer involved shooting. Instead of cute shoes and girl talk, we sat near the phone and were glued to the Internet and TV. The news ended up being much worse than we'd anticipated. Although Jeff and Jason are unharmed, four other officers will not be going home to their families tonight. Four. Lives.
Specifically, I'm so proud of Jeff--my favorite police officer. I'm proud that he chooses to risk his life to protect and to serve. I'm proud that he is able to see individuals, rather than groups. I'm proud that he has learned to gain the respect of his community. I'm proud that his heart remains open.
Thank you for serving, Jeff. It fits you.

We were at a concert tonight and kept checking our phones to hear the latest. It is just sick what happened to these poor officers and I can't even imagine what their families are going through. Thank goodness Jeff is ok and I agree...Thank you Jeff! Thank you Oakland PD.
Oh, I meant to ask you. What is Jason's last name. Cody used to work with a guy named Jason, who is now an Oakland cop???
Jason is Jeff's brother, so they have the same last name.
Got it, different Jason :)...thanks! Nighty night.
Sherry,
Thanks for writing this and for loving my kids (all 4 of them) so much!
Breanna told me, long ago, that Jeff would NEVER be an employee, a regular desk jockey, or a sit by the side and watch kinda guy. She knew from the time that she figured out that she loved him that her life would never be easy when it came to his commitments.
He cares, deeply, about protection of life, freedom, and happiness and all that it implies. He loves his job and I don't think that even if he were to choose to leave his current position, that he would go to a 'safer' place and let his sense of responsibility to his community brother and sisters wane. He truely believes in what he does and where he does it.
I wish the people that he works with could only know the man that is trying to help them - he is there to make a better place for them - I wish I could scream that from the rooftops and that they would listen and just help him (and his fellow officers) make it happen!
Thanks, Sherry. We're lucky to know and love such a guy that just wants to make a differnence! He will -
Cyndie
I'm proud, too.
