We're reading Antigone, so we've been talking about basic human rights. The journal topic today was "What is one thing that every human being deserves?" My students' answers included:
A partner
a job
A family who loves them
happiness
the opportunity to experience love
educationa second chance
the right to express themselvesWhat would you add to their lists? Journal entries must be at least 8 lines in order to receive credit!

I think it's really cool how you used different fonts, Ms. McGowan.
I'm voting to add "Every human being deserves rest." And, if they have back pain, a break from that. Rant, rant, rant.
Freedom to make your own choices
Ms. McGowan,
Look who stumbled across your blog! How the heck are ya?

I don't think I deserve much. The realization of my rebellion and sin before a good, holy, and generous God - well, it makes me that much more grateful for all the good gifts that God has given me. It amazes me that I deserve judgement, but God has giving me uncountable blessings and gifts - first and foremost His own son. Everything I get is grace. That's on the cosmic level.
On the human level: I think every human being deserves.... to be treated with dignity and respect, no matter how they treat themselves.... to know they are loved.... to hear the truth.... to be known and enjoyed based on their character and personality, not their looks.... to be listened to.
Remember how I used to have a crush on the late Richard P Feynman? You know, the dead physicist? Well, he's back. Sorta. I'm making a Fandango puppet for my science and math class (annoying, yes, as I could have just looked at her sample to "get it" rather than using the 5 minutes of freetime I have to make a flipping puppet). I chose him, even though he wasn't on the list. What fun!
It reminds me of when we had to do the immigration project for one of the many SS classes at GHS, and I made my family book with pictures of Richard Feynman and Drew Barrymore. And then Meisje had to interogate me and made me do pushups to get in to the country. That was a cool project.
Oh yeah... every human deserves:
a swift kick in the ass, as far as i'm concerned
Oh Feynman. Oh Nose Ring Girl. Oh Drew and Chris. Oh pink hair. Oh meat is murder bumper sticker. Oh intentionally falling in crowded places. Oh Jessica in high school:)
I'm glad that you're reviving your passion for the dead physicist. Does Kevin know?
