Calling Nana: Ten Four

On Tuesday nights, on my way home from the library, I almost always stop at Nana's. I sit in Papa's recliner (since he's been in bed for hours) and snack on York Peppermint Patties while we chat and laugh.

It reminds me of my first year back in Livermore when I was so lonely that I would drive to Nana's and sit with her and watch TV almost every night. I was lonely and I didn't have a TV at my place, so it made for a nice arrangement.  Those times were sweet. In those days, I secretly considered my nana my dearest friend. There's something therapeutic about sitting with Nana while she listens, jokes, and laughs.

Back to Tuesday...I ask Nana how Papa is feeling and she says, "Oh, he's okay. I'm exhausted because I'm at his beck and call." [She points to the walkie talkie with an exasperated look on her face.] I laugh and say, "Is he really using a walkie talkie to call you??" She just rolls her eyes and laughs.

That woman has a good sense of humor.

Nana is one special "broad", and I'm so thankful for your relationship with her. I hope that I have the kind of relationship with my grandkids that Nana has with you.

Me, too. Even as a little girl, I knew that the relationship Nana had with her grandkids was special. I'm glad that I get to be related to such a remarkable human being who loves so effortlessly.

Tiff, I can't imagine you ever "get used" to life without a grandma as dear as Grandma Jesse was to your family. I do feel very fortunate to have Nana close by.
