I'll be praying for you.

I have many friends who are Christians. Obviously. Odds are, dear reader, you are a believer yourself.

When my believing friends get worried about me or want to offer me some encouragement, they will often tell me they're praying for me. Almost always, the "I'm praying for you" promise is premised with "As cliche as it sounds" or "Even though it probably doesn't mean much to you." Please don't apologize for praying for me. It's only cliche and meaningless if you're just saying it, and you really have no intention to actually get around to praying.

When you say "I'm praying for you," I hear, "I care about you," "I'm thinking about you," and "I wish I could do something." Those are all pure sentiments. I think of your prayers as positive thoughts and pure offerings of friendship.

Why would you apologize for that?

I haven't found a good substitute for this phrase. "You're in my thoughts" just doesn't compare.

I would assume they're not apologizing for actually praying. Perhaps they think it makes you uncomfortable since you don't seem to believe in the God they are praying to. I'm glad you brought up how this makes you feel. I find myself fumbling with my words when I want to say it to a friend who doesn't believe in God. Thanks, Sherry.

I like this post. You're right, those of us inclined toward prayer do it because we care. And truthfully even if you didn't like it I'd still pray for you! :) I appreciate you, Sherry, and enjoy your openness.

I'll pray for you. Especially that you would find in your heart a passion for all things graphicnovelish.

PS. That's not meant to be a jab at anyone on here.

PPS. Thanks for not dropping me on your reader.
