Honor

I tried to read Time’s “Special Issue: The Republicans” with an open mind. I opened up to the interview with McCain, and this is how it starts:

What do you want voters to know coming out of the Republican Convention---about you, about your candidacy?
I’m prepared to be President of the United States, and I’ll put my country first.
There’s a theme that recurs in your books and speeches, both about putting country first but also about honor. I wonder if you could define honor for us.
Read it in my books.
I’ve read your books.
No, I’m not going to define it.
But honor in politics?
I’ve defined it in five books. Read my books.
Later, when he is asked about having sons in uniform, he responds by telling the interviewer that they don't discuss their sons. Interestingly, three pages later, his wife engages in a heartfelt discussion about her sons saying, "I want my sons led by a Commander in Chief who understands what it means to send young men and women into combat-- and more importantly, how to bring them home."

McCain was being interviewed by Time for their special issue on Republicans. I'm more than disappointed in his responses. Does he not realize how many Americans read Time?

Fuck McCain.

Now I wish I hadn't recycled this issue when it came to my classroom. Obviously, I am not one of the Americans who reads Time. Frankly, the font is too small to read as I'm bouncing around on the elliptical machine. But I am "with it" enough to recycle.

Perhaps he simply couldn't remember his definition when put on the spot? He is... oldish.

I actually liked him on SNL. Too bad.

You're out of control. I usually pass my Time on to Nana, but she wouldn't miss an issue. Do you want it?

I love you, friend. F-bombs and all ;)

I like the old quote: "Life is for people who can't read, and Time is for people who can't think."

Present company excepted, of course.

I'm not talking about you, nerd. I'm referring to the anonymous poster.
