Preparing

Update: I got the delightful news that I am now a certified foster parent, and my name has been put on the vacancy list. I spoke to the social worker today and she recommended that I agree to do respite care while I wait for a more permanent placement. Respite care is basically babysitting foster kids (who have been placed with a foster family) to give the foster families a break. I think I will really enjoy that!

Tonight I found myself clicking around on BabyStyle. I haven’t done that for a while. I’m a recovering baby-clothes-buying addict. Right, Stephanie?

I think the strangest part about “expecting” a foster baby is the inability to prepare tangibly. I want to spend my time wandering through consignment shops and checking out baby clothing auctions on eBay, but it would be wasteful and frivolous to do so. I don’t know the baby’s gender, size, or whether or not she exists, but I have so much TIME right now--a commodity I know I will lack soon.

I haven’t bought so many of the infant/toddler “essentials” because I just don’t know. I bought one-size cloth diapers, but I can’t buy anything more specific because the situation is so nebulous. Will his bum require a 1 or a 3?

I’m sure it will work out. I will have to send my mom on a marathon trip to Target. She will help me, but I wish I could do something now. I’m a planner, you know. I never go to school in the morning without a plan for the day. I always have at least a vague itinerary in mind when I go on trips. When I have dinner parties, the menu is precise. I make lists and lists and lists.

My hands are tied. Wait, I will.

Who knew baby clothes could make a person feel so helpless?

I love summer because you post nearly everyday!

I understand how not being able to plan can drive a person insane!! We may be alike that way ;)

Thanks for being excited with me!

Thanks, Chris, for the Target run offers ;) Will you bring me straws and ice cream if I need them, too? What about a ride home if I decide to go on too long of a walk after dark? Oh, wait. You already did that.

Great news! I didn't see your update until today! Why didn't bloglines let me know you updated?

PS - We have benefited very much from you baby clothes buying addictions. Thanks. I wish I knew what to get you to help out, but since you don't know, its probably hard to tell other people what would be helpful.
