This weekend was full--both literally and figuratively.

Friday I learned that I'm ready for home study. Home study is the last step before placement. I'm almost there!

Saturday morning I had water safety training. It was lame, but my mom went with me, and we got out early, so it led to an unexpected lunch at Pascal's and a sweet trip through some antique stores.

Last night, Jessica, Dawn (my mom's forever friend), my mom, and I went to dinner at Rick and Ann's followed by a performance of No Child at Berkeley Rep. The food was delicious, and the play was remarkable. I cried during the standing ovation. The message, the actor, and the company of educators left me overwhelmed.

Today, I went on my annual date.

Tonight, I'm going to honor a colleague of mine at an awards ceremony. She's being awarded the "You Make a World of a Difference" award by the LDS youth group.

Tomorrow, I will go to school full of life, but without their research papers graded. I hope they forgive me.

I want to know about the date.

Also, the No Child show looks good from what I could tell on the site. I hadn't heard of it before. Is it coming to Chicago?

I love your mom too. She is very giving and quite humorous. You two are two peas in a pod :)

The show looks like it's good. Is the under 30 rate really for all people under the age of 30?

Jessica,

Yes! Isn't that great!? If you can get tickets, you should definitely go! I think, with your urban experience, you will especially "get it." It reminded me why I teach, despite all the red tape. You and your mama should go together.

congratulations on the home study! but, what exactly IS home study? i have a picture in my head of someone with a notebook following you at home and criticizing your housecleaning.

Jenny,

Your description is great :)

Home Study is the last step before placement (for adoption and foster care). A social worker will come to my home and check to see if I meet all the licensing requirements (locked meds and knives, a home clear of rubbish, escape ladders, fire extinguishers, etc.). Also, she will spend a good amount of time asking me personal questions about my history, intent, state, etc. The whole process is about three hours long. It's a bit intimidating, but I'm looking forward to it, since it's the LAST step!
