For whatever reason, I like Martha Stewart. She's the queen of the home arts. That woman knows how to design a centerpiece, prepare a fancy desert, and decorate the classiest of weddings. I admire her skills (or the skills of her talented team of advisors). [Please refrain from making stupid jokes about her financial advisors in the comments portion of this post]
More than that, I like her because she's socially retarded. She cracks me up. The Martha show has become a silly joy of my summer. I love to watch her nit pick her guests and to watch the audience laugh at her awkwardness. It cracks me up.
Ms. Stewart's quote of the day: "It's fun to bring the tea to the table and serve it like a lady. Even in you're a man!" Oh, joy.
Random Sherry fact of the day: My college roommates decided that I was like Martha Barr (a combination of Rosanne and Martha). I can pretend to be classy, but I'm really loud and obnoxious underneath the linen and china. :)

The domestic goddess herself

Here's the thing about Martha: She IS socially retarded. However, she has the kind of social retardation that I don't find endearing. She's so snotty and flat and prissy that it drives me nuts. That's why I like to look through her magazines but flop around on the floor in pain should I accidentally see her show. Judy and I used to watch the old show, however, to get ideas and to express shock at her bitchiness. It was good fun in those days. Several years later, I watched a made-for-TV movie starring Cybil Shepherd and that further added to my distaste for the domestic goddess. I'm glad that you enjoy her, though, and I must admit that she and her team are the epitome of class, style, and taste.
PS -Kudos to the roommates for coining Martha Barr. After hearing you belch after a good beer, and after experiencing the elegance of a tea party by Sherry, I'm a believer in the Martha Barr phenomenon.
Have I really "belched" in front of you? :) I do, in fact, enjoy beer. Oh, yes, I do.
