"A Different World"

How nice it would be
To live in a world
Absent of all
Intellectuality:
Accepting of beauty
Just as it glows,
Not caring about
What makes it so;
Ignoring ugliness
Where it exists;
Putting aside whatever
we find disturbing;
Placing our brains
In idle awhile.
What is it we'd miss
For the promise of bliss?

-Robert Donald Spector

"Ignorance is bliss" must be the antithesis of my philosophy of life. Yet, this poem appealed to me. It made me want to set aside The English Journal, the books I'm reading, my unit plans, the Internet, and the news. It was as if the author of the poem was telling me to take a break. Today, I will stop reading and making plans for next week. At least for the next couple of hours. Maybe I will scrapbook, go for a walk, or call my nephews. It's time to take a deep breath and enjoy life.
